Description
The training presenter will be Paul Joyce:
- Code/standard topics you plan to address (NEC/NFPA 110 & 111, transfer equipment, grounding/bonding, fuel source considerations, load calculations, disconnecting means, signage, working clearances, utility coordination, etc.)
- Topics will include:
- NEC code requirements
- Product listing and labeling
- NFPA 37
- International Fuel Gas Code (Including NFPA 54 and 58)
- Manufacturer’s installation guidelines
- Typical installation issues seen in the field and best practices
- Most installation errors are based around placement and the confusion of NFPA 37 Requirements. Even if the jurisdiction does not enforce the NFPA 37 our installation guidelines require this standard. NEC Article 110.3(b) in the NEC tells us that we must follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
- In our presentation we do have examples of compliant and non-compliant installations.
- Other pain points of installation standards are the confusion of the Prime mover shut down requirements. The prime mover does not need to be lockable open if there is a disconnecting means available.
- Lastly, another pain point in installations is Fuel requirements. This is part of our training; fuel requirements are often overlooked as installers as gas fitters or plumbers are responsible for this aspect. More than 90% of generator start up failures are linked to fuel requirements.
